Victor Xray Gig - 25th April

I will be doing a live set at the Spoonbill CD launch in Brisbane at the Step Inn in the Valley, Saturday April 25 2009. About 10pm in the corner bar.

The gig details are:
 Host: !113g@1 v@1u3
Start Time: Saturday, April 25, 2009 at 9:00pm
End Time: Sunday, April 26, 2009 at 5:00am
Location: Step Inn (Downstairs + Corner Bar)
Street: cnr St Pauls Tce & Brunswick St, Fortitude Valley
City/Town: Brisbane, Australia
After nearly two years of questing through the audio underworld, wrestling crocodile-headed samplers and taming fire-breathing speaker stacks, Spoonbill has returned to the earth's surface, ready to address his ecstatic followers. His message: Zoomorphic, a shapeshifting sonic celebration of Spoonbillism. Zoomorphic is set to earn Australia's most unique aural oracle thousands of fresh converts across the globe. Zoomorphic is the third album by electronic musician Spoonbill (aka Jim Moynihan), following the critically acclaimed Megafauna (2005) and Nestegg (2007). This time around, Spoonbill's anarchic, quirk-funk, glitched-up aesthetic has been forensically finessed like never before, sculpted to a well-bodied medley of groove-based sound art. The Zoomorphic experience is crafted from an intricate web of edited studio recordings of exceptional musos melded with found sounds, foley folly and synthesized materials, much of which was captured while recently touring across US, Canada, Europe & UK. Squishy pulsating bass lines carpet the undergrowth, while dirty squelchy synth licks frolic in a warped menagerie of neurotic cyborgs, rattlesnakes, sirens, champagne froth, fireworks and crushed eggshells. The jamboree coalesces to form a single groove shrieking beat-creature, covered with feathers, scales, bells and whistles. Zoomorphic is a diverse musical mutant for late-night dancefloors, introspective train-rides, and everything in between. This fresh batch of Spoonytunes will captivate fans of glitch-hop, IDM, breaks, psychedelic electronica, folktronica, dubstep, trip-hop and more – but the Spoonbill's mighty call can't be pigeon-holed into any single genre. Some folk call it “vaudeville electronica”, responding to the jovial carnival feel like circus clowns with lobsters in their pants.

Celebrating the launch of the new CD in Brisbane in wild style across 2 rooms of the Step Inn, Spoonbill will be supported in the Main Room by:
John Foxx

I saw Foxx last night, it was totally fantastic. He gave a performance of his work 'Tiny Colour Movies' which I found particularly moving (its a very ambient series of compositions for super-8 home movies and other found footage -- extremely Ballardian). After that there he returned to the stage with his latter-day collaborator Louis Gordon and performed updated versions of his more familiar material (i.e. stuff from Metamatic & later material, and even at least one track from early Ultravox! material). Despite its slight updating (mostly in the low end) it was the icy electro synthpunk typical of what you'd expect of Foxx, only it puts the current rash of 20 year olds imitating this style in the charts to complete shame. Loud, clean and crisp sound system helped as well. Remarkably well-preserved for his age too. The only downside was the small crowd it drew to the Tivoli, anyone who claims to be a fan of electronic music, "electro" or any of it's thousand modern variations and who misses it without a good excuse is a complete pretentious dilettante who should never be taken seriously on the topic of electronic music ever again. Inspiring night all round.

The first track for 2007 is Haunt The Loop (mp3)

The first track of the new year! Recorded it while recovering from the past 2 days over this afternoone, sitting on my back deck with the MacBook, the Novation Remote keyboard, and the butcherbirds in the backyard.
Haunt the Loop revives some old chords from a late-period Now:Zero song. As that song is completely embarrassing I'm not going to give anyone a pointer to it, however here is a brand new track I made for the new year!

Download Haunt The Loop.

Melbourne people don't forget that I'm playing this Friday 5 Jan 2007 @ ROGUE STATE which is put on by Uber Lingua. It's at North Bazaar 222 High Street, Northcote, from 9pm to 3am. Visit the Rogue State website for more info.

TO DOWNLOAD: As usual, click the "attachment" link(s) in this entry if you are viewing the HTML web page - or use a podcasting client RSS feed of the blog to get automated downloads of any new music placed on The Horse, He Sick. If you can't see a download link anywhere go to the original page url - usually linked from the title.
