Victor Xray - Death Groove 9000 (mp3)

The evolution of a track

This week's track (Death Groove 9000) is an evolution of The Dolphin Machine which was in itself an evolution of Death Groove 6000. I've reverted to the original name format -- only the name indicates the improved version. I've removed the earlier versions if you haven't already got them.

UPDATE: Link removed for pending release on Skuzzy Beatz.

Jupiter's Sinews

As this blog has turned out to be focussed almost exclusively on my musical output, I am now running a generalised "Tumblelog" ( powered by Tumblr ) over at Jupiter's Sinews ... it's got a fairly steady stream of news, links, quotes and the like.

Blog name

I've decided to rename the blog. The old name was really just a place-holder that I entered when I set it up. The new name, 'Xray Dubs' reflects more accurately the purpose of the site.

Victor Xray - The Dolphin Machine (mp3)

Same riddum as last week

This new dub is the same basic bass and drums as last week's. However I ripped every thing else out and did it all again - completely different. Hence the new title. It's a couple of minutes shorter too ... bit more focussed.

Victor Xray - Death Groove 6000 (mp3)

Victor Xray 320kbps mp3

This one is a rough dubstep cut I mixed this evening. I quite like the basic bass'n'drum groove that it's got although it needs a little more production work in other areas, mostly because I think it has potential to be a real killer track if I do. Until I get all the production sorted, enjoy.

Dark Darks Of Dub EP preview - Beat Magazine

Melbourne

"Brisbane based, Scot Mcphee is the man behind Victor Xray and the EP release Dark Arts of Dub. Victor Xray was born out of two previous guises for Mcphee, the electronic Now Zero and dub influenced Nerve Agent. As the title states, this four track EP is about everything dark and everything dub. The EP begins with the slow creeper The Dead Walk, an eerie atmospheric track that would be great as background music if you were to ever find yourself in a haunted house. The electronic Bellweather Beaten follows on and is a slightly more fun and bouncy dub outing, the title track Dark Arts of Dub an industrial sounding tune. Dub Forever International is my favourite track on the album, chimes mixing with a more up-tempo dub-step. While Dark Arts of Dub won't be setting dancefloors alight, it is well thought out foray into dark beats, Victor Xray flying the flag for strong productions up north." Tom Griffin
