The Richter Scale (mp3)

Victor Xray mp3

So, I bought this really cool plugin, Phoscyon, from the Polish software company D16. It's a very nice TB-303 emulator. That meant that the past couple of weeks I've spent making a lot of sub-acid that I won't be allowing anywhere near the public, although there is one track in there that's worth it - an acid bassline latin-feel track. But moving on to tonight's offering ...

Having this new plugin meant I spent the weekend trying to figure out how to incorporate the highly distinctive sound of the synth into my more regular sound -- and this track, which also has vocals (of a sort) is the result of my weekend's work. I had the basic groove yesterday but it took today to sort out the synth and vocal treatments. It's got a quite a laid back feel - 160bpm half-tempo (so that's 80bpm then) slow style beat with a nice big throbbing sub-bass. About two thirds the way through I pull out the old switch-the-kick-and-snare trick which changes the whole feel of the beat in an interesting way. Click the link and spot the 303 plugin. ;-)

Download the Richter Scale.
