Blind Bass Rattle (mp3)
Bass & melodion
This track is a very rough mix of a track I did recently. It is basically a recording of myself playing two instruments. The bass part is actually a recording of the venetian blinds in the corner of my studio that rattle at certain frequencies when I play my bass through its amp. The notes, if you are interested, are something like D, C, A, A# and G. A# (played on the E string) gets the best rattle and makes up most if not all of the sustained notes.
The other instrument is the melodion - the same one as I have used on my dub productions and similar to the melodica. There are two overdubbed melodion parts. Finally, there are some vocal noises in the track which mainly are treated with a envelope-following band pass filter. This is the sound that opens the piece. An el-cheapo Chinese MXL condensor microphone was used to make the recording along with Ableton Live version 5.
The piece as you will hear is a very atmospheric soundtrack work of music. It is still a work in progress, I plan to add some processed guitar and/or synthesised bell-type sounds or whatever comes to hand in the near future.

New Dawn Fades 2006 (mp3)
Yes, it's a cover of a Joy Division song by Victor Xray.
Really this single track is like the two sides of a single of the one track. The first half is aiming somewhere at a stark alienating distance, and the second half is a dance pop version of same. Sort of.
I ressurected the vocoder vocal performance and a some other elements from an earlier (2005) failed attempt at making a version. This track will form part of my set at the 'Sumner' event of the Silhouette Series event on May 13 in Brisbane.
